1972 -the roots of Cannon Equipment started with the formation of the Distribution Equipment Division (DED) of IMI Cornelius in its’ North American headquarters in Anoka, Minnesota.
1972 - Ron Rosa, the first president and CEO of Cannon Equipment, lead the company until his retirement in 2001. Under his stewardship, Cannon grew from one location to five, employing over 1,000 people and surpassing the $100 million mark in annual sales.
1981 - Cannon Equipment Company was officially created when DED merged its manufacturing operation in Coon Rapids, Minnesota into Point-of-Sales, a beverage display manufacturer based in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. This facility was renamed Cannon Midwest in 1997 when the new corporate headquarters in Rosemount, Minnesota was completed.
1986 - the Bonus-Bilt Company was purchased from Hoffmann Industries, now Cannon West. Cannon West is located in Garden Grove, California.

1988 - Cannon purchased the Cumberland Corporation, now Cannon Southeast, from the Bill Robinson family. Cannon Southeast is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
1997 - a new corporate office was completed in Rosemount, Minnesota. This complex is also home to the Cannon Machinery division.
1998 - Cannon Conveyor Systems, St. Paul, Minnesota is merged into the Cannon Machinery division in the Rosemount, MN complex.
1999 - Melrose Display Company (now Cannon Melrose) was acquired from Melvin Cohen. Cannon Melrose is located in Passaic, New Jersey.
2001 - Wayne Whitney, a veteran IMI executive, succeeded Ron Rosa as president and CEO of Cannon Equipment.
2001 - Display Technologies was acquired and is a sister company to Cannon Equipment under the Cannon Solutions business unit of IMI.
2002 - DCI Marketing was acquired and is a sister company to Cannon Equipment under the Cannon Solutions business unit of IMI.
