Cannon Equipment Social Responsibility Priorities
Merchandising, Distribution Equipment Manufacturing Priorities
As a manufacturer of material handling carts, front-end merchandising fixtures,
point-of-purchase fixtures, dairy automation equipment and newspaper automation
equipment, we at Cannon Equipment take our responsibilities to the environment and
the communities in which we operate very seriously. These are often referred to as
corporate social responsibility or CSR.
We believe those responsibilities can impact positively on profitability, returns
to shareholders, reputation and growth. High standards of responsibility are, in our view,
compatible with growth and business efficiency. We put particular emphasis on ensuring that
our management of social, environmental and economic issues is aligned and integrated with
the overall management of the business and we call this "responsible business."
We fully endorse and align our responsible business programs with our parent company’s,
IMI plc, own responsible business policy.
Cannon Equipment, along with our parent company IMI, plc has identified four key
priorities within our overall approach to Responsible Business. We are accelerating
our efforts to work in ways that are more sustainable, ensuring that we take account
of all stakeholders, including future generations, in the manufacturing of material
handling carts, front-end merchandising fixtures, point-of-purchase fixtures, dairy
automation equipment and newspaper automation equipment.
Our priorities are:
- Continually improving our working practices to minimize health and safety risks.
We encourage best practice throughout our business and monitor performance through
a set of Corporate Health and Safety requirements and systems of guidance and auditing.
We utilize relevant key performance indicators to help us track our progress.
- Understanding and meeting our customers' Responsible Business (CSR) priorities.
Our operations seek to understand the whole business environment experienced by
our customers, including their social and ethical responsibilities and priorities.
- To manage the particular challenges relating to manufacturing facilities in low-cost
countries. We ensure that all our facilities operate in accordance with our policies
on health, safety and the environment, employment practices (particularly child
labor), pay, benefits and working conditions, improper gifts and payments, and also
set standards on these matters that suppliers too are required to meet, in line
with the UN Global
Compact. We have developed a supplier evaluation tool to ensure that performance
is reviewed in a systematic way.
- To maximize energy efficiency. Each of our facilities is required to set targets
aimed at minimizing emissions that have global warming potential and also reducing
the associated costs. In addition, all of our businesses are continually seeking
to develop ways in which our products and services can become even more energy efficient
and/or help our customers become more energy efficient.
